Strange Day

// August 13th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Uncategorized

It’s been a strange day. I took this whole week off of work, and Kory is at Orientation for the newbies Wed-Fri. So it’s just been Caspi and me.

Today we had two small earthquakes, these coming on the heels of the huge earthquake Tuesday morning. After the first, I rode my bike to the grocery store and bought a thousand pounds of water and canned goods for an earthquake kit and managed to pedal it all home without hitting any cars or trees. After the second, I cleaned out the bottom of the closet and put said earthquake materials into a cardboard box to be our “earthquake kit.” I may or may not return to the grocery store and buy a big tupperware container, depending on how OCD I am feeling in the next few days. So much seismic activity is unusual, at least in our limited experience. It really makes me wonder if the Tokai Earthquake is knocking on our doors …

This evening Caspian and I heard some booms that were not part of the Sims 3, so I took him out to the stairwell to watch fireworks over the city. It was pretty funny to watch him watching (and listening to) the fireworks. He was certainly aware something strange was going on. As we watched, a train passed, the insides lit and visible from where we stood. Just one of those days you would never have in America.

Happy Anniversary, Japan!

Today marks one year since we arrived in Japan. It’s strange to think it’s been so long. There have been challenges, for sure, but we are enjoying our time here. Hopefully, the next year will be even better!
